The challenge
The owner lives outside Šibenik and wants to avoid physical key handovers, but the existing door is not suitable for every smart-lock format.
The worst decision would be to force unsuitable hardware onto the door simply to claim that the property has a smart lock.
Proposed access design
The project combines a compatible primary solution with controlled backup for rare exceptions.
- detailed inspection of door mechanics and available installation space
- a discreet solution only when mechanically reliable
- simple PIN or equivalent guest access
- a secure key safe as documented backup rather than primary entry
- arrival instructions with an entrance photo for old-town navigation
How the guest journey would work
The door is assessed before hardware is ordered.
Primary access is designed so normal guests do not collect a physical key.
The backup key remains secured and is used only through a defined procedure.
After any exceptional backup use, access is secured again.
Expected operational effect
This scenario shows that good automation is not always maximum automation. A hybrid backup can be more reliable than forcing hardware onto an unsuitable door.
The guest still gets a straightforward self check-in while the owner has a realistic exception plan.
